Maui, Hawaii December 2019

Updated: Jan 22, 2020

Hawaii has been on the top of my list of places I wanted to visit for a long time now. My parents took my there when I was only about one year old so obviously I have no memory of being there. My boyfriend Kevin and I had been throwing around the idea of going to Hawaii for a while and then one day I saw some super cheap flights and we took it as a sign to just do it! Three weeks later we landed in Maui! We stayed in the cutest Airbnb condo in Kihei which turned out to be such a great location. It was very central and just a short drive to other areas of the island such as Wailea. There was a great little beach right across the street from our condo with calm water and lots of sea turtles which was so cool!

Iao Valley State Park

On our first day we headed to this amazing park. I felt like I stepped into Jurassic Park. It was a short little trail with stunning views of the lush green mountains. This was one of my favorite places we went to because it was so tropical and green!

Grand Wailea Luau

Since it was our first time to Hawaii we decided we had to do the typical touristy thing and go to a luau. We chose the Grand Wailea Hotel to go to. We booked the tickets online in advance. It was a bit pricey but was a cool experience and dinner was included. There was lots of food, flower leis, hula dancing and fire throwing! I would definitely recommend it for a first trip to Maui!

Road to Hana

We decided to rent a car (jeep of course) because we wanted to be able to explore the whole island. One the things that I knew I wanted to do was the road to Hana but I was nervous about it because I get car sick very easily. I had heard lots of stories of people hating it and getting sick on the long winding road. I am happy to report I did not get sick and am so happy we did it! The drive was long and it took us all day but it was beautiful! We hiked the Pipiwai trail which led us through a bamboo forrest to a huge waterfall. The hike was not too hard but very muddy so definitely wear proper shoes. We also stopped at the Black Sand beach which was amazing and so unique.

Maui Tropical Plantation

Our flight home was not until 9pm so we had a full day but didn't want to go to the beach and get all sandy before the flight so we ended up visiting the Maui Tropical plantation. We had passed by it everyday and didn't know what it was. We are so glad we went because it ended up being one of our favorite activities. We took a tour around the property and learned about all the fruit and nuts they grow there. It was such a unique and education experience not to mention the property was beautiful!

Overall We had such a fun trip and are already itching to go back! Hopefully sometime soon!

Aloha!!
